EIS & Zoning PLan

REALISATION WILDLIFE PARKRESORT EUROPE – A STEP CLOSER

Since mid-summer 2011 Griendtsveen has both a visual quality plan and a zoning plan. These documents are irrevocable. With this definitive official permission, Griendtsveen has reached a vital milestone in the Amsterdamsche Veld. To come this far, it has been necessary to complete very many statutory procedures in recent years, such as the Environmental Impact Assessment and other studies.

The recreational developments in the Amsterdamsche Veld consist of:

WildLife ParkResort

  • Shortbreak Resort concept
  • A variety of biotopes with European wildlife
  • Indoor facilities Outdoor facilities

Westzone

  • Golf in natural surroundings
  • Events set in nature, such as equestrian sports
  • Circuits for coach-and-four, “eventing” and “endurance

Dommers Canal zone (Focus on cultural history)

  • Moor Lodges
  • De Fijnfabriek
  • Industrial monument for peat processing
  • Train depot, Narrow-gauge railway museum

The planned recreational developments adjoin one another and together they form a continuous area of 306 hectares.

Aim of the EIS

The EIS is intended to ensure that environmental aspects are given due regard in the decision-making, with a view to fostering a sustainable development. The EIS provides the basis for the zoning plan in which it is demonstrated that the planned development takes the environment into consideration in a responsible manner.

The EIS contains investigations in many areas, such as:

  • Water
  • CO2 emissions
  • Nitrogen emissions
  • Ecology, both plant and animal
  • Natura 2000,
  • Archaeology
  • Odour nuisance
  • Noise nuisance
  • Traffic

The results of the investigations have been included in and used to inform the published EIS, the EIS summary and the Terms of Reference, dated 10 March 2009, compiled by RBOI in Rotterdam.

Characteristic of the approach adopted by Griendtsveen to the planning and realisation of its activities is the extremely high level of sustainability involved and the respect shown for nature in the broadest sense. As a result, in its measures to realise sustainability and a high-quality ecological approach, Griendtsveen is going much further than is required by law. This has also been shown by the various research results obtained as part of the EIS procedure.

The environmental impact statement provides the basis for the zoning plan.
